This week is all about the letter Ll. Today we learned to write Ll the correct way in upper and lower case, learned the Ll sound, and learned the "sign" for Ll. Our Board Words are lion, lemon, ladybug, and lamb. Our Preschoolers added 18 additional words to our board. Three of those words were classmates names: Leo, Luke, and Lily. They remembered that these words are capitalized because they are important. So proud of them!! Our Circle Time stories: Little Ll and His Sound Box by Scholastic and The Legand of St. Nicholas the story of giving by Dani Mackall.
In the Writing Center we did our Getting Ready page for letter Ll. We also were able to spend some time on our white boards. They all love to write the alphabet, their names, or draw a picture on their boards.
We used crayons, markers, glue, and glitter in the Art Center. We finished our Three Kings and Angel crafts today.
In Small Motor Skills Center we use our bins. Today we played with letter matching/snapping popsicles, puzzles, tangrams, and color sorting with balls and sorting tweezers.
Religion-We started our day with the story of St. Nicholas. We learned that he was a generous man who helped Christians in need. Throughout his life he left small gifts and treats for children. St. Nicholas Day has remained a time when children receive small gifts, treats, or special cookies. Sometimes oranges and chocolate coins are left. Candy canes are also given as they represent the shape of the bishop's crosier. Last week Mrs. J. and I hung a Christmas stocking for each student in hopes that St. Nicholas would leave some treats for us. He didn't disappoint. Today we all found a candy cane with a coloring page and a nativity ornament to make at home with our family. Just before we looked in our stockings, we had a visit from St. Nicholas. He talked to our class about what a kind and giving man St. Nicholas was and how he helped people in need. St. Nicholas also told us that this is a waiting time before Christmas and it is a time to be kind, loving, and giving just as God loved us so much that he sent us Jesus. There were lots of smiles today!!
We also continue to work on our Christmas songs!
**Special Notes:
*There are still lots of different illnesses going around. PLEASE keep your child home if he/she is not feeling well. Help us stop the spread of germs.
*Wednesday is our shopping day for Santa Secret Shoppe. Fill our the envelope with the name of the person your child is shopping for, along with the amount they may spend on each person. If you do not have an envelope, just write it on paper, put it in an envelope with cash, a check, and your child's name. If your child cannot shop on Wednesday, they will be able to shop on Friday too.
