This week is all about the letter Oo. Our Board Story was about Ollie and Otis turning the lights on and off, and off and on. Our Board Words are: ostrich, otter, overalls, and octopus. Our little ones added 10 additional words. Awesome!! Our Circle Time story today was Little Oo and His Sound Box by Scholastic. Today we learned the correct way to write letter Oo the correct way in upper/lower case, the long and short Oo sound, and the "sign" for letter Oo.
In our Writing Center we did our Getting Ready page to practice writing Oo. We also make circles, squares, and triangles in sand.
In the Art Center we made an Owl craft. These will be displayed in our hallway for Catholic Schools Week with the heading - Preschool Gives a "HOOT" About Our St. Paul Family.
During Religion we talked about the Epiphany. We learned that the Ephipany is also called "Three Kings Day." Epiphany celebrates 3 events: The arrival of the Wise Men; the baptism of Jesus; and Jesus' first miracle. We will spend more time this week learning about the special day in the Catholic Church.
After nap time we used blocks to practice some math skills.
**Special Notes:
*I know that many of you are concerned about the number of Covid cases in and around our community. We still have several students out with a variety of illnesses/symptoms: cough, fever, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, nausea, etc.... If your child has any symptom(s) PLEASE keep them home!! We cannot take the chance of spreading more germs throughout our classroom. It is the responsibility of each family to do the right thing and to help us keep everyone as safe as possible. Mrs. J and I work very, very hard each day to clean and disinfect our room, but we can only do so much. In class our little ones love to sing the song "This Little Light of Mine." Please shine God's light by showing the love and kindness that I have seen time and time in our St. Paul Community. Thank you so much.
Remember: ( If you read to your child, have them color, and/or review our letter of the week, they will be fine missing class time. You are their First Teacher.)
*Please remember to send your child to school dressed for the weather. We try to get outdoors daily and with the cold weather here, we need hats, scarves, mittens, boots and snowpants (for snowy days), in order to venture outside. If you would like to send in an extra pair of boots/snowpants to leave at school, please put them in a bag labeled "LEAVE AT SCHOOL" so that I know they are to remain in their locker. If they are not labeled in a bag, I will continue to send them home.
*Drop Off: It has been very cold for our morning drop off. Please have your child ready to exit your car in the morning. This means that they have their coat and mask on, hat and mittens are on, back pack is ready to go, etc.... Some of our students are waiting outside for far too long as we help their classmates get dressed at their car. The quicker we get everyone out of their car and lined up, the less time we have our little ones standing in the cold. THANK YOU for your help.
*Reminder: Monday, January 17 is Martin Luther King Day. NO SCHOOL
