This week we are learning all about the letter Tt. We will learn how to write letter Tt the correct way in upper/lower case, the Tt sound, and the "sign" for Tt. Our Circle Time stories for the past couple of days: Letter Tt and His Sound Box - Scholastic Books and Tony Boloney by Pam Munoz Ryan. We have been playing the game "Found a Letter" to help us practice and review letter recognition. On Wednesday we also read some Dr. Seuss books to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. In the Art Center we made a Dr. Seuss craft. These will be on display in our classroom for a bit.
In Religion we have been talking about Lent and Ash Wednesday. We learned that Ash Wednesday starts our Lenten season. Lent is the "preparing" time before Easter. During this time we pray, fast, do good deeds, almsgiving, and sacrfiice. It is a time for us to be still, quiet, and thoughtful so that we can be closer to God. We learned that the ashes we receive come from the palms used at Easter from the prior year. These ashes remind us that we are Children of God. Our littles ones played with dirt on Monday so that they could feel the grittiness of the dirt, which is similar to that of the ashes. On Wednesday Deacon Bill visited our class and spoke with all of us about Ash Wednesday and Lent. He gave all of us a blessing with the ashes and after he left we said a prayer :
Lord, may everything we do begin with your inspiration, continue with your help, and reflect your love. We ask this through Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
THANK YOU DEACON BILL FOR VISITING OUR CLASS AND PRAYING WITH US!
We will spending some time in the coming weeks making a Lentscape or Lenten Altar in class. We will drape our small cross with a purple scarf - our preschoolers will learn that the color purple symbolizes solemnity and repentance. Our Lentscape will have framed pictures, battery operated candles, a crown of thorns and more. I will keep you updated as we add items to our Altar and learn more about Lent and the Easter story. I didn't start it this week because I felt like they had a lot of information to digest about Ash Wednesday.
We are also doing a Lenten activity in class. Every time someone is "caught" doing a Good Deed, they will asked to put a cottonball in our Good Deed jar. If we can fill our jar to the top, we will have a Good Deeds party when we return from Easter Break.
Special Notes:
*March is Reading Month. Please watch the caldnedar that came home with all of our special activities for the month. Next Monday is a pajama day. Shoes must be worn with their pajamas. NO slippers please. This is a safety issue.
We will be spending extra time reading each week.
*On Friday we will have a special Letter Tt treat to end our study of Tt and our week. I think everyone will have fun making and eating this special surprise.
*Masks: Most of our class is without masks. I have about 7-8 students that continue to wear them. Mrs. J, Mrs. Nesom, and I will continue to wear ours as well. We all have our own personal reasons, but also felt that we needed to keep them on for the students that continue to wear them now. My own personal reasons: I take care of both of my elderly parents and I cannot take a chance of either of them catching anything. I spend time with my grandbaby and he is too young to get vaccinated and too young to get sick; plus, I am awaiting the arrival of my second grandbaby which is due to arrive by the end of this month. When my first grandchild was born, I was unable to hold him for 3 months and could only see him from a distance or through a window due to Covid. I also was unable to help my daughter after delivery. It was a difficult and sad time. I need to do all that I can to keep my family as safe and healthy as possible.
With that being said, we are already beginning to experience runny noses, coughs, lots of sneezing, complaints of sore throats, tummy aches, headaches and more. Please, if your child is not feeling well, keep them home. They do not want to be at school when they are feeling under the weather and I don't want the germs to spread all over our classroom. Being sure that your child can go to school or not is tough for any parent. If your child didn't sleep well the night before because of a cough, congestion, etc... they probably need to stay home simply because they are tired. If your child has a runny nose that needs to be continually wiped and it is sore and red, the last place they probably want to be is at school. Use your best judgement. If your child seems lethargic or does not participate in our daily classroom routine, I will call home for a pick up. Remember - this is Preschool. They will be totally fine if they miss some class time.
We may be without masks and our Covid numbers may be extremely low, but there are other illnesses going around. It is the responsibilty of us all to keep each other and our families healthy. God Bless.
